How do you learn Reiki?

There are three levels of training in Western Reiki:
First Degree, Second Degree, and Mastership.

In the unbroken lineages of Traditional Reiki in which the methods of Hawayo Takata (the woman who brought Reiki from Japan to the West) have not been changed, First and Second Degree are each taught in separate classes of approximately two days usually over a weekend, sometimes spread over evening classes. For powerful personal healing and working with others, First and Second Degree Reiki training are all that is needed.

A First Degree class always includes at least:

  1. The History of Reiki,

  2. The four (4) attunements necessary to open the energy in the students' hands

  3. Practice using the energy;

  4. Information on how Reiki works and how to use it is tailored to the specific needs and interests of the students.

  5. At the end of the class, students are fully empowered Reiki practitioners with everything needed to work with themselves and others hands-on.

Second Degree Reiki is a step deeper into the energies and into advanced energy healing techniques. Second Degree involves two additional attunements that increase access to Reiki energy, and training in advanced techniques including the ability to offer Reiki to those at a distance and to do mental/emotional healing on yourself. Second Degree Reiki is appropriate for students who have had and used First Degree for a minimum of three months and who wish to expand their Reiki abilities or have a need to be able to offer Reiki to others at a distance.

Mastership in unbroken lineages of Reiki is a lengthy and involved process of training intended for those with a professional commitment to teaching and healing with Reiki. Students are eligible for consideration after they have had and used Reiki for a minimum of three years and acceptance to training is by invitation from the teaching Master.

How much does it cost?

In general the fee structure for First and Second Degree Reiki  at StoneWind Institute follows that set by Takata more than fifty years ago.  First Degree Reiki in the unbroken lineages is $150.00, the same fee Takata charged. Second Degree Reiki is $500.00 (also Takata’s fee), although at StoneWind Second Degee is broken down into  two weekends of training at $250.00 each.  Fees for Reiki classes serve two purposes: (1) as anchors for your contract with yourself to learn and use Reiki, and (2) as reimbursement for my time and expertise--but not for the Reiki energy. No one can "buy" Reiki or "own" it for that matter.

Reiki healing is about more than "fixing the body." It is about self-healing at all levels, physical, mental, and emotional, with emphasis on "self." Under the ethics established by Dr. Usui, those receiving Reiki training or treatment must exchange some form of energy as sign of commitment and involvement in their own process. Money, a compressed form of energy (effort having already been expended), is the most common form of exchange, although by no means the only one.

The energy exchange, whether money or otherwise, is critical to all parties because it maintains balance between the people involved, and Reiki is about balance--in the body, in relationships, in the world. From an energetic perspective, the energy exchange between teacher/student or practitioner/receiver establishes the firm intent of both parties to maintain outward balance, thereby opening the body to the inward balance from which physical healing comes. From a psychological point of view, a suitable energy exchange means neither party is able to feel one up or one down, neither needs to feel indebted to the other--or used. Both are able to walk with respect.
