A Beautiful Place
Make the most of our mountain's magic with an "in cabin" full body massage from the Peaceful Hands of Fran McGhee, LMT. Fran incorporates the full range of Swedish Massage techniques along with Hot Stones Therapy in an hour session in the privacy of your own yurt. An hour with Fran will leave you relaxed but energized and ready to enjoy your vacation. If both you and your partner choose a massage, Fran can do them in the same visit or at different times. A full body massage is a wonderful way to begin your stay--and to end it.
Touch is a very important part of human contact. It helps us feel connected and loved by those around us. Both Full Body and Chair Massage applies touch through stroking and kneading of parts of the body to aid circulation and relax the muscles.
Swedish Massage:
There are many forms of massage, but Swedish massage, developed in Stockholm more than two centuries ago, is the most common and best-known form practiced today.
The goal of Swedish Massage is to relax the entire body by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Additional techniques include circular pressure applied with the hands and palms, firm kneading of muscles, percussion-like tapping, and bending and stretching of fingers and extremities. Massage Oils are used to reduce friction and stimulate the skin.
Swedish massage is exceptional for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
Hot Stones Therapy: The use of hot stones for healing dates back to ancient times, but it wasn't until Arizona massage therapist Mary Nelson introduced her hot stone massage technique, called LaStone Therapy, that the use of hot stones for massage caught on in the US. Hot Stone Therapy may be used as a separate and complete form of massage or it may be incorporated into an overall full body massage. Fran incorporates Hot Stone Therapy as part of her overall full body massage.
Smooth hot or cold stones, usually basalt or marble, are used to massage the body. With heated stones, muscles relax allowing the massage therapist to work deeper into the muscle. Stones are heated in hot water and placed under the back, along both sides of the spine, and on top of the torso and are believed to heat the chakra or meridians centers. Heated stones coated in oil are then used directly in the hands of the therapist delivering various massaging strokes. Heated smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body.
"Chair massage", a quick way to relax also referred to as "Seated Massage," is done in a variety of diverse public settings, e.g., offices, airports, shopping centers, sport clubs, and salons. A Seated Massage typically lasts 10-30 minutes and is performed while fully clothed. Chair Massage is an excellent technique to use for working on the neck, shoulders and upper back areas of the body. Due to the way the individual is positioned, seated massage allows the therapist to work with the force of gravity while doing a treatment. At StoneWind, Chair Massage is done at either the Yurt Retreat Center or at the North Lodge. Depending on weather, Guests may choose to have their chair massage done on either of the decks overlooking the mountains. Chair Massages are scheduled online, at check-in, and during your stay subject to availability.
