FLYING

StoneWind Retreat is located off I-540 midway between Ft. Smith and Fayetteville, Arkansas. The closest commercial airport (30 minute drive) is Ft. Smith Regional Airport (FSM), served by American and Northwest Airlines.

Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (XNA), the major regional airport north of Fayetteville, while a somewhat farther drive, is served by all major airlines with either direct or commuter flights into all major cities.

For those wanting an FBO, Drake Field (FYV) on the south side of Fayetteville, 30 minutes away, is an excellent airport with jet capable runways.

DRIVING

The most direct route to StoneWind from Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, and points east and west, is to connect with I-40 which runs east and west through the middle of the country.

From North Texas: out of Dallas or North Texas take I-75 to US 69 through Durant, Atoka, McAlister to Checotah and I-40. Take I-40 East to Fort Smith, AR then follow directions below.

From Missouri, Kansas, and points North take I-44 to Joplin then Hwy 71 &
I-540 south through Neosho, MO down through NW Arkansas to Fayetteville.

  • EXIT from I-540 at CHESTER/EXIT No. 34
    (about 30 miles south of Fayetteville just below the
    Bobby Hopper Tunnel or 21 miles north of the I-40/I-540 junction.)

  • TURN RIGHT on Hwy 282 West at the exit ramp stop sign.

  • GO Straight through the town of Chester and turn LEFT on BROWN ST. just past the two-story white building with lime green window trim.

  • Cross the railroad tracks & river; continue straight up BROWN ST (aka Old No. 12) 5 miles.

  • Pavement will end, gravel road will begin; go 300 yds to Wilson Branch Dr. A red and white county road sign and StoneWind Retreat's sign are on the corner of Wilson Branch Dr.

  • Turn LEFT on WILSON BRANCH DR. (gravel road).

    DO NOT USE YOUR GPS after your turn on Wilson Branch Dr. unless you want to meet our neighbor's cows and one mean bull.
  • On WILSON BRANCH DR. Look for StoneWind logo signs marking the road;

  • Cross low-water bridge, then

  • Stay RIGHT straight up the mountain, do not turn Left anywhere.

  • Cross the low-water bridge and go straight up the road from bridge;

  • Road angles right, continue straight through the stone pillars and cattle guard;

  • Stay to the right up the mountain past stone house on right.

  • Continue slowly up the mountain. Caution, one lane road.

  • Standing Stones on either side of gate mark entrance to StoneWind Retreat.

  • Continue to top of mountain.

  • At intersection of StoneWind Dr. and Warrior's Way turn RIGHT through the stone pillars to the Red Barn Offices. East Room is also in the Red Barn.

  • Each Yurt has a full kitchen with a dining table, refrigerator, microwave, stove, dishes, and condiments.Romantic log flame gas stoves provide ambience as well as heat on a winter night.Our bathrooms have step in showers with benches, plenty of towel bars, a spacious medicine chest.
